Mayor Tracy Brabin

Mayor of West Yorkshire
Tracy Brabin is a trailblazer in UK politics and public service. Elected as the first female Metro Mayor in England, she leads West Yorkshire with a strong focus on equality, opportunity, and inclusive economic growth.
A passionate supporter of accessible and sustainable transport, Mayor Brabin has championed investment in the region’s bus services and launched initiatives to improve safety and affordability — particularly for women and young people. In 2022, she introduced the “Safety of Women and Girls Strategy”, the Charter brings together transport operators, councils and the police to deliver real improvements in safety, training and accountability across the network.
Tracy was appointed Women in Bus and Coach Ambassador at the Women in Bus and Coach Northern Region launch on 24th March 2025 at Stourton Park and Ride in Leeds. Her role as an Ambassador reflects her deep commitment to breaking down barriers for women — not just in the bus, coach and community transport sector, but in leadership more widely.
With a background spanning the arts, broadcasting, Parliament and now regional government, Tracy brings a unique perspective to the Ambassador Programme — and a powerful voice for change in the bus, coach and community transport sector.
