Richard Turfitt OBE
Traffic Commissioner for the East of England
Richard Turfitt OBE is the Traffic Commissioner for the East of England and former Senior Traffic Commissioner, having served two terms in the national role between 2017 and 2025. He also serves as Acting Traffic Commissioner for Scotland.
With a background in law, regulation and enforcement, Richard has held senior roles across government and the Health and Safety Executive and is widely respected for his commitment to safety, compliance and professional standards across the bus, coach and haulage sectors.
Richard was appointed as an Ambassador for Women in Bus and Coach at the Women in Bus and Coach Corporate Members Event held at the London Transport Museum on 11th May 2026, during the unveiling of Helen Clifford’s Blue Plaque.
As an Ambassador, Richard supports Women in Bus and Coach’s work to encourage greater inclusion, representation and opportunity across the bus, coach and community transport sector.
