Period Positive Campaign

Creating Period Positive Workplaces in Bus and Coach and Community Transport

Women in Bus and Coach launched a nationwide campaign to tackle period poverty across the UK Bus and Coach industry. Our challenge: for all major garages, support offices, and manufacturers to become Period Positive workplaces.

No one should be left without access to period products at work. By providing free period products, we can reduce anxiety, avoid disruption, and show colleagues that their wellbeing matters.

About the Initiative

Period poverty continues to impact millions in the UK. Our campaign aims to raise awareness within the bus, coach and community transport sector and bring about tangible, positive change for employees.

The campaign’s focus is simple:

  • Ensure free access to period products in the workplace.
  • Support policies that help staff manage their health with dignity.
  • Tackle stigma and create a more inclusive workplace culture.
Why this Matters

Providing free period products in the workplace:

  • Reduces anxiety and disruption – no more leaving work to buy supplies.
  • Promotes inclusivity – ensuring everyone who needs products can access them.
  • Supports wellbeing – showing staff they are valued and supported.
  • Is cost-effective – many organisations find it saves money compared to vending machines.

According to ActionAid UK (2023), one in five women struggle to afford period products, while 17% say they have stayed home during their period due to lack of access. This makes it clear that period poverty isn’t just a personal issue — it directly impacts attendance, wellbeing, and workplace equality.

How to get started

Getting started doesn’t need to be expensive or complex. Many organisations begin with something as simple as a basket in the washroom, topped up weekly.

Here are three easy first steps:

  1. Start small – trial free products in one location.
  2. Listen to staff – ask what products they’d like to see provided.
  3. Keep it visible – use posters and signage to make it clear products are free.
