The Bus Safety Standard has already helped drive meaningful improvements across London’s bus network, setting clear expectations for safer vehicles through design and technology. Since its introduction in 2018, each phase has built on the last, and this next stage looks ahead to 2027, 2030 and 2033.
At this event, you’ll be able to experience that progress first-hand.
A key focus of the next phase is inclusive and ergonomic cab design, recognising that better environments for drivers lead to safer outcomes for everyone. From improved visibility and accessibility to reducing fatigue and distraction, these developments are designed to support a more diverse workforce while enhancing overall safety.
Through live demonstrations at UTAC Millbrook, a wide range of safety features will be brought to life, including camera monitoring systems, intelligent speed assistance, advanced emergency braking and improved vehicle design focused on protecting both passengers and vulnerable road users.
Alongside the demonstrations, there will be speakers and presentations exploring how these innovations are being developed and implemented. You’ll also have the opportunity to engage directly with Transport for London and industry partners through interactive showcase stands, highlighting what’s coming next from inclusive cab design and driver wellbeing to behavioural approaches to safety and future-focused vehicle standards.
This free event is aimed at public transport and local authorities, bus operators, bus industry and user stakeholders, including regulators, policy makers, government, bus and safety professionals, insurers, and, bus user and road safety stakeholder groups.
A shuttlebus will be available from Milton Keynes Central train station to the venue and return.
