From professional drivers and engineers to human resources experts and CEO’s, ‘Spotlight On’ will highlight the diverse talents and achievements of women in this dynamic industry.

Was engineering something you always wanted to do? How did this career come to mind?
Not until I was about 14 when I got into Motox and then the Army also appealed. I found out I could join the forces learn the trade (Mechanic) so I could fix my own bike and possibly do the sport and get paid for it all.
Did anyone inspire or support you along the way?
My parents were always supportive but no real inspiration as when i was younger it was even more rare for females to do anything mechanical.
How did you get to where you are today?
Started my career with the Armed Forces (REME) after leaving the forces did various different jobs. Then started with Stagecoach as a Driver Engineers found out my background and asked if i would like to join the Engineering team.
What do you like about the Bus, Coach and Community Transport sector?
The sense of community and the fact most people seem to go above and beyond to help.
What does a typical day look like?
Issue out what work what fitter is doing what. Auditing work. Helping with difficult jobs. Sourcing parts. Health and safety checks.
What’s one myth you’d like to bust about being an engineer?
You need to be Goliath to be able to do the work.
What advice would you give to women thinking about a career in the bus, coach or community transport sector?
Don’t be afraid and don’t be scared to get things wrong that is how we learn.
What has been your bus, coach or community transport sector career highlight?
Obviously winning Best Women in Bus award 2024.
What could the bus, coach or community transport sector do to improve the industry for Women?
Set up experience workshops to give women the confidence.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I’d like to be Engineering manager.
