Today we focus on and find out about:

Zara Choudhary
Director
Tigers Transport

How did you get to where you are today?

Started in Software Engineering & vented off into Crypto. Till I was 9 months pregnant, and dad suddenly rememebered his dreams of opening a coach hire company. Fast forwarding to passing the exam at 9 months pregnant, to opening our own coach hire service in London.

Did you experience any challenges getting to where you are today?

It is challenging starting from scratch, many operators are not helpful when they do not seek to get something out of you in return. For those who were helpful, they will be forever appreciated.

However the ones who were not, in terms of clients, adequate timings, experience and pricing, they were not interested when we only had one minibus but somehow managed to reach
out when we had expanded to a fleet of 8 coaches in only one year.

If so, how did you overcome them?

Took on the task of learning everything, from cold calling to marketing to doorstep marketing. I built my own client base, and in return I share my experience (which isn’t much) with all people who ask or need. There is no fee for information.

What do you like about the bus, coach or community transport sector?

It is very rewarding, in terms of hire.

It’s a business which will always be needed in the ideal world of pushing to sustainability and reducing carbon footprints.

What does a typical day look like?

No day is the same. The morning is compliance, and driver spot on checks. The next moment, is working on clients quotes for our regular partners and customers. A typical day does not exist, there could be an urgent call out, a diversion, a late returning customer. Simply anything could change.

What advice would you give to women thinking about a career in the bus, coach or community transport sector?

Jump in, you wont know or learn till you experience and make mistakes. A mistake is not a mistake if it is something you have learnt from.

What has been your bus, coach or community transport sector career highlight?

Definately the weird looks I got, when taking my Transport Manager exam at 9 months pregnant.

What three things could the bus, coach or community transport sector do to improve the industry for women?

Invite more females in HGV roles, and Driving Roles by offering flexible working.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

Owner of 50+ Fleet Coaches.
