Today we focus on and find out about:
Lauren Heys
Business Development Executive
Proximity Coach Travel
How did you get to where you are today?
I left my job in primary education to work alongside a family friend.
What do you like about the bus, coach or community transport sector?
I like the friendliness between suppliers and the community it has created.
What does a typical day look like?
I cover the sales side of Proximity. I send quotations to clients and follow up to investigate any further enquiries needed, for those larger companies. Alongside our general public enquiries, take key details and requests of any journeys we quote and make sure it creates a tailored and personalised experience with Proximity.
What advice would you give to women thinking about a career in the bus, coach or community transport sector?
Do it!! You won’t look back, I thoroughly enjoy my role and believe it has brought out a developing sales aspect I never knew I had. I love speaking with our customers and making sure they’ve received what they need, and check in after the travel for feedback and any further enquiries. I enjoy creating a personal experience.
What has been your bus, coach or community transport sector career highlight?
I attended my first BETA summit for educational travel this week in Liverpool. Here I met with potential customers, as well as existing. It was nice to speak to people I may email regularly! I felt inspired as the younger side of the industry, to go back to our office with new leads and fresh ideas.
What three things could the bus, coach or community transport sector do to improve the industry for women?
Make it known that women can take the reins! Show impressive organisation skills, I see this daily through my colleague Holly. We can be the ones who take your enquiry, offer personalised support, to even driving the vehicle on the day of travel!
What changes have you seen since in the sector since you joined?
Honestly, I am still developing myself in the industry so I see changes that way frequently. I am yet to watch the industry grow and develop, while women are involved in the progress!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I look forward to seeing my confidence and knowledge grow in the coach industry.
Anything else you would like to share?
I love working within Proximity. I’m proud of how I’ve grown within my role from Sales Executive to Business Development Executive. I look forward to what progression the future brings for us!
Thank you for sharing Lauren, what a great story!
