Today we focus on and find out about:
Faye Waring
Operations Manager
Anthony’s Travel
How did you get to where you are today?
Immediately after completing my uni degree, I went travelling around Australia and South East Asia for 18 months. When returning I ran into difficulties pursuing a career relating to my degree as I had been out of the country so long. Anthonys Travel offered me a part time position until my situation changed, and I enjoyed being here so much that 19 years later I never left!
Did you experience any challenges getting to where you are today?
In 2018 I had a major health set back and Anthonys Travel supported me throughout that journey and continue to do so. I have always really enjoyed my time here and found everyone so supportive of each other.
What do you like about the sector? What inspired you to get involved?
I really like the close relationships between different operators and suppliers. I like to see other family-owned businesses succeeding many of whom have become friends.
What did a typical day look like?
I am first in the office each morning and must make sure everyone is where they are meant to be and make any necessary driver/vehicle changes. I allocate drivers/vehicles to future work, deal with enquiries, take bookings, generate invoices and general operational/administrative duties.
What advice would you give to women thinking about a career in the bus and coach sector?
Although it may not have been your first choice, it is a lovely industry to be part of with lots of opportunities and friendly faces.
What has been your bus, coach or community transport sector career highlight?
I am proud of the many awards we have won and have loved celebrating that achievement with the team who are like family to me. The 40th year anniversary party that Anthonys Travel hosted was a personal favourite, having all our closest operators and suppliers in one room and sharing memories of the company.
What three things could the bus, coach or community transport sector do to improvement the industry for women?
Whilst we are a predominantly female office it is obvious that other parts of the industry are mostly male. There are not many female drivers, and the industry needs to promote the appeal towards females more.
What changes have you seen since in the sector since you joined?
We have seen many legislation changes and since covid times changes in work/life balance, and customer requirements.
Thank you for sharing your story, Faye!
