This week is RHA’s National Coach Week – The UK coach sector employees around 45,000 people across approximately 700 coach operators, handling 400 million passenger journeys, contributing around £6bn to the UK economy each year.
To celebrate National Coach Week, this week, the Women in Bus and Coach “Spotlight On” initiative shines a light on the incredible contributions of women in all roles across the coach sector.

How did you get to where you are today?
Joining Bakers Dolphin in 1993 aged 18 years old, I started at the bottom and was keen to learn different aspects of the business. By watching, learning and receiving great support from my Sales & Marketing Director Amanda, I have worked my way up through the company, having roles as Reservations Manager, Product Support Manager and now Contracts Manager. Having recently celebrated 30 years with Bakers Dolphin, I feel proud of my loyalty and to be part of a such a successful family run business.
Did you experience any challenges getting to where you are today?
Being young when I joined Bakers Dolphin, confidence was a problem for me, but have certainly grown over the years and now feel very confident in my position.
If so, how did you overcome them?
By listening and learning and realising that I can do whatever is requested of me.
What do you like about the sector?
Everyone needs bus and coaches whether it be for a school trip or holiday. Being able to produce varied brochures offering amazing holidays is my highlight.
What does a typical day look like?
No two days are the same. It can vary from doing figure work, to writing a letter, putting together a new leaflet or brochure or helping with our social media.
What advice would you give to women thinking about a career in the bus and coach sector?
If you have drive and ambition, then no woman should be afraid to do the job they want to do, and gender should be irrelevant. Just follow your dreams.
What has been your bus or coach sector highlight?
Winning Coach Operator of the Year. We are a team so we all have a part to play when we win awards. This always makes me feel very proud.
What could the bus and coach sector do to improve the industry for women?
Maybe more adverts and posts showing women in this sector. Especially female drivers.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
In the same role all being well.
