Samantha Davies
Coach Driver
Coracle Coaches

How did you get to where you are today?

After having menigitis in 2011 and being left with a condition(IIH) i thought my dreams of becoming a lorry driver were gone, fast forward to 2022 and i found myself challenging that opinion  and jumping through hurdles to pass my class 1 test. Unable to find a job in 2023 I was put in touch with Ken at Coracle Coaches and he offered to give me a chance if i did my PSV test.

Did you experience any challenges getting to where you are today?

Lots! After being unsuccesful with gaining employment on HGVs due to having no experience and then having issues with my medical. Being a single mum of 5 girls also brought its own  challenges to my chosen job.

If so, how did you overcome them?

I went for PSV instead of HGV and found a great employer who was willing to give me the support and encouragement I needed. The medical challenges hindered me slightly but with  perserverance and determination proved I was able and fit to do so.  With great support from family and friends I have been able to pursue this career to provide a future for my girls.

What do you like about the bus, coach or community transport sector?

I love the feeling that I am always on an adventure and that every day is never the same, you are still always learning no matter how ling you have been doing it.

What does a typical day look like?

My usual day is school runs with office work inbetween, but I also do tour work when i can fit it in with my children.

100% go for it, you wont look back!

What has been your bus, coach or community transport sector career highlight?

Driving a coach to Italy and having my eldest daughter on board for the journey.

What things could the bus, coach or community transport sector do to improve the industry for women?

Recognise women as equal.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

My aim is to complete my transport manager course in the next 5 years.
