Today we focus on and find out about:
Bethany Blanks
Marketing Manager
DJ Coaches
How did you get to where you are today?
I’m the Marketing Manager at DJ Coaches, but I originally started as a Coach Driver just over a year ago.
I took my PSV driving test in March 2023 as I was drawn to being a part of the family business, since then I have learnt more and more about the coach industry by learning the role of a sales administrator. Then I took my love for social media and decided that the industry needed a modern twist to entice the younger generation to join the coach industry, so I took to content creation for our Instagram, Facebook and TikTok page.
Did you experience any challenges getting to where you are today?
The only challenges I came across was when I first started driving coaches, it was a nerve-racking experience to begin with when I came face to face with tight roads and obstacles but once you overcome the first one you feel like you can do anything!
If so, how did you overcome then?
Taking things slow is my best advice when being a beginner coach driver, if you’re unsure about a tight space, get out and check.
What do you like about the sector?
I love that DJ Coaches is a family orientated business, even the staff/ drivers are like family. I also love that you’re constantly learning in this industry and every day is different!
What does a typical day look like?
I spend most of my working days in the office, answering the phone, replying to email enquiries and planning content for our social media.
At least once or twice a week I will hop on one of our coaches with a driver, ideally on a job where there will be a lot of drivers/ coaches going, to take video and photo content for the whole day. The drivers love getting involved! The day after a content day, I will spend some time arranging the posts for the week and editing videos for Instagram and TikTok.
I will occasionally go out and drive!
What advice would you give to women thinking about a career in the bus and coach sector?
My advice for women wanting to join the coach industry would be to just do it! You learn so much along the way, just join with the knowledge you have and your licence. If you’re going for a driving role, you will be amazed at the places you will see in the world and the things you will experience. Most of our drivers here at DJ say that the job doesn’t even feel like a job because they love what they do so much, and with the friends they have made through working in this industry, and that goes for both men and women here!
What has been your bus or coach sector career highlight?
Passing my test first time was a great feeling!
