Today we focus on and find out about:

Sharon Allen
Operations Manager
Roberts Travel Group

How did you get to where you are today?

I started as an admin assistant and stuck my nose into everything to learn all aspects, I was promoted to Senior Supervisor so ran Ops and continued to do so until I was pushed to take the  Operations Manager role, so now I run Ops with the title, I am also the O’licence holder.

Did you experience any challenges getting to where you are today?

I haven’t really as I have been in logistics all my working life and have always done what I do. I took my licence, I drove a fork lift, I drove a 7.5 tonne lorry trunking, I drive deckers, coaches anything so I have never felt being a women has stopped me.

What do you like about the bus, coach or community transport sector?

No day is the same and all people are different and everyday is a learning day.

What does a typical day look like?

During the morning run out we ensure all drivers are in, if not arrange cover. After schools we concentrate on checking vehicles for PH, I will allocate some days so all drivers know what they are doing. If tours out we will go through the packs to check for everything pm school run out anything can happen in Ops, we may get a last min call for emergency coaches so all hands on deck.

What advice would you give to women thinking about a career in the bus, coach or community transport sector?

Do it! Its such an interesting job and as long as you get on with your new family you will go far, pass your test and don’t be afraid to have a go.

What has been your bus, coach or community transport sector career highlight?

Passing my bus licence and being the o’licence holder.

What three things could the bus, coach or community transport sector do to improve the industry for women?

I honestly don’t think there is anything to change that would make life easier or improve for women.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

Hopefully still at Roberts Travel Group.
